Every other input to a tape-out can be bought, licensed or reused. Senior verification, firmware and DFT judgement is the one that cannot.

The first trap

Nine to eighteen months to a productive senior engineer in the scarce disciplines — verification, firmware, mixed-signal, DFT.
The programme cannot absorb the wait, so the date absorbs it instead.
